Guys,
Just returned from a 2-day special class that EAG put on for Mark LaRue and the fine folks that work for him. Almost all of them come from some kind of shooting background: shotgunning, competitive pistol, hunting, etc.,
This was my first opportunity to see where the magic happens. The level of QC/QA that Mark is able to maintain is amazing, but after meeting the people in the shop, I'm not surprised. Every single one of them are salt of the earth people, and despite being pushed through a three day course of fire crammed into two days, there were no complaints. I only wish all our classes were as satisfying to be a part of.
The range is located behind the main buildings of the shop, and it is clear that Mark and Company frequently shoot back there. The 200 yard and 100 yard square ranges are nicely kept. During the course, we had the opportunity to use a large number of LaRue's Sniper Targets which was a real treat. Where else can we shoot on $30k worth of LaRue targets?
Many thanks to LaRue Tactical for their hospitality. Suffice it to say, this is one of the rare classes where we did not have even one mount or sight related failure. Thanks for having us, and we look forward to the next time!
Tim

Students get their 50 yard BZO from prone position. Many shooters found the "competition prone" position quite comfortable as compared to the standard military prone. Resting the mag on the ground also aids in stabilizing the gun.

This was an opportunity to say "Thank You" to Mark, his family and employees, who have done so much for those that press the trigger while facing the scum who wish to drag us down to their disgusting level. Larue Tactical has gone from a blip on the radar screen to being a major player because of their ethics, ability and the fact that they make the very best mounts and rails available. They did a great job at the class, and i appreciate their hard work. I especially appreciate the work of Tim and the others who provided support for this class.

Tim / Pat,
Everybody had a great time and learned a ton too!!! The whole shop sent a big thank you...and then they followed it with flawless tactical reloads. Thanks again for taking the time to come all this way...all the guys/gals are abuzz with nothing but carbine talk. :-)

Clint-there are (as you well know) precious few companies involved in this business that actually do any training with firearms.
Eagle Industries, Crye Precision and TangoDown do it regularly, and a few individuals will do it.
I had three engineers from Picatinny come out once. One was very senior, and had some terrific insight into the origins of the 1913 rail.
I wish more did- perhaps we wouldn't have so much of the garbage on the market if people had a genuine understanding of how we fight with guns.

FYI- the BUIS on Ellen's gun is the original prototype BUIS. Mark felt (as do i and others) that having elevation on the BUIS is superflous. It is a carbine, and a 250m weapon.
Some have e mailed me about this, and this is the answer.

Good stuff Pat! VERY few Dealers in the tactical world shoot and even fewer in the Manufacturing world shoot. It is great to see them (LT) spend the time/energy/resources on training so they can better understand the warfighters needs.

Of course, Pat is correct when he says there are few companies that train regularly. Indeed, LaRue Tactical, Crye Precision, and Eagle Industries are all serious about their work and train regularly. I am particularly proud of the TangoDown guys, specifically Jeff Cahill, who I shoot with on a regular basis. It was his hard work and dedication that helped him win the carbine shoot off at a recent class.
That being said, the boys (and girls) at LaRue are truly extraordinary. They're serious about what they do and are very good at it. Just as importantly, they're Great Americans and a joy to work with. This was one of the highlights of my training year.
Below: Pat says, "Yep. This is a carbine."

Good Morning Wes!
Actually, i was pretty sure what i knew you meant, but thought i might be able to strangle that thought and turn it into something less obvious.
Apparently, it worked!!
Yeah, Mark and his guys were busy. The joke there was that they got in early, worked on the machines until 0759, then geared up and ran out to the range.
And, by 1700, they were back in the shop.
That's how the story goes, and i'll stick to it!
As you are aware. 90% of what they do in military, and we saw all of that chugging merrily along (so to speak).
We also saw what is coming down the pike, and tried hard to influence what may be behind that.
The big payoff was that these guys had a clear understanding of how the equipment was used, and to a certain extent be able to mimic that use.
Being more efficient means less fatigue, which equals better performance under pressure.
We could learn a lot from the aviation side of the house....
This was one of those classes that we really enjoyed. I wish we had more time, but the guy with the whip and Taser was standing by the door to the shop, reminding all that they had to get back to turning out the gear that is needed to keep us all free.

Come on now Pat,
You know I haven't had to use that Taser but one time. :-)
In all seriousness...each and every one of the guys/gals here at LT are hellbent on making good kit that will be used to make a difference in the fight "over there".
We continue to optimize the entire facility into one very well-oiled machine...we've made some nice progress just since you were down here. More good things to come...

Each time I speak to Mike, he mentions new machinery and/or improvements to the shop. We all know that you have to spend money to make money, but few know what it takes to bring truly good kit to market. Thanks.

Just a note to my fellow manufacturers...
It's been a couple of months since our class with Pat and I can say it has been a tremendous boost for moral...Team LT was already locked-on, but jeeminy, the shop guys are now obsessed. Do yourself and team a favor and send as many as you can through, so all know where and what the buttons are for on a carbine and why the guys in the sand need this stuff to run without fail.
And my gosh, what a pleasure it is working with a bunch of shooters.

Pat,
I wish you had a little pamphlet to hand out at your classes that has something like a 200 round "stay current with your carbine" lesson plan. I'd like to have it be like a check-list to use (that you wrote) that tells me how to use my 200 round budget to it's maximum effect of keeping me current with my carbine.
Get on it...Sir. :-)

Mark;
Thats a good idea. I leave my classes with a 20rd "School Drill" that covers all the basics with one box of birdshot that students can use to keep skills current. This doesnt take much time and they can justify bringing the shotgun to the range when they shoot the other systems.

Hello Pat, I think Mark has a great idea there. Around 200 rounds a session is about all I have a budget for and having a structured series of drills that are set up to maximize those limited resources would be wonderful. I've been trying to stay current since the Brady Class and had been doing fairly well until a seismic study started being conducted in the area to find places for new gas wells and the company conducting them had to go across my land for a while in the range fan of my personal shooting range. A series of drills would help me get back into the swing of things when they finish the study. I hope to be able to attend one of the 5-day courses next year since my unit is going through a transformation this year that prevented me from going this year. Take care! S/F James

Pat,
We want that refresher, but we're having a time of it finding ammunition. What's the story on ammo, is it going to loosen-up any time soon?

Mark,
It's off topic, but your guys (Mike and a really cute brunette) helped me out big time at the shop last Tuesday afternoon with a ML3 and mount. Pass on my extreme thanks!

Say Pat,
How is that "200 round stay current with your carbine" pamphlet coming?
Inquiring minds are waiting with baited breath.
After all Mr. Yam helped us out with the 10-8 Pistol Test #1. So the picture needs to be completed, Yes?
Not that either is or would do me much good here; I made a real nusnace of myself so we could get to the range and re-zero our carbines and they graciously gave us ten rounds to do that with and nothing at all with which to practice. Seems as if the idea of training with your weapon in a combat zone to maintain a skill level has never occurred to anyone as making sense.

Mark: Just wanted to say I got my QD mount and Aimpoint last week. Ordering was great... once I identified myself as a 10-8 member it was like dealing with family!
BTW, the armadillo "Field Survival Device" was/is a big hit with my college-age daughters and their friends. I've had to fasten it to my key-chain to prevent it walking away...

James,
Mark has the only useful armadillos to be found in Texas. The rest are found tearing up yards and pastures or "splattered and scattered" on the roadways.
They (Mark's) are a great convienence!

Wayne... I've heard the other kind of armadillos can be useful as 55 gr VMax high-velocity receptacles as well...

The Thread That Will Not Die!
To add something useful, though, I've hung my 'dillo on a hook sucker-stuck to the front of my microwave. Now I always have a method to crack open a frosty barley-pop.

And Matt have you noted that any REAL beer truly worth drinking requires an opener and will NOT twist off by hand??

Sir Pat, now that you got the M4 mounts, it's my turn to begin bugging you for a report.

I just saw this thread for the first time. At first I was wishing I had a range behind my shop. Then I realized if I did we wouldn't get any work done! Especially since the owner would spend all his time out there instead of in here
