Has anyone had any experience with the new SIS Pistol from Kimber?

Not directly, but from a reliable source, the early models had trouble running right, FTF and FTE. They should have that worked out, I'd hope. Also SIS integrated into the front and rear serrations, which would be way out of character for the original SIS.

The pistol is also slippery right out of the box. The slide serrations are useless. Add in sweat, blood, rain or any other fluid and I think your going to have even bigger problems.

My brother in law just got one. I felt that the sights were over large (maybe I'm too used to my Novaks) and I agree that it was overly slick in the hand.

I don't think he has shot it yet. I keep trying to get him to pony up at a little local speed steel match, but I've been unsuccessful so far. I'll have to check with him if he's been able to shot it past reasonable toothing/new gun issues regarding reliability.

I've now had my SIS Custom (the 5" no-rail model) for several months now. It's currently, my main off-duty weapon. My department-mandated carry gun is a Glock 22.

Out of the box, it had the too-usual Kimber slide-stop problem of premature slide lock backs during the first two magazines. I expected this after having this problem on another Kimber purchased earlier this year (2008) and after reading the many similar reports on the 1911-related web forums.

I also had another problem of the gun going full-auto. Kimber asked for the gun back after I called them regarding this. Within four weeks, at Kimber's expense, I had my gun back and it's been working reliably and fine for a few thousand rounds now. Kimber adjusted/filed the slide-stop and made whatever adjustments to stop the full-auto problem.

Just for a test, I substituted two other brands of slide-stops into the gun, brand new without any fitting, and they also both worked without incident. These slide-stops were the Ed Brown "Hardcore" and a Wilson "Bullet Proof".

I've been using Wilson 47D and Kimpro Tac mags, both 8 round versions, although I've just ordered Tripp Research upgrade kits to replace springs & followers, to try.

(With a Kimpro Tac mag I had one single slide failure to lock back using my other Kimber, a TLE II. I couldn't recreate the issue but it appears as if the follower rotated backward on the last round, causing the follower to miss the slide-stop "shelf" by just a fraction. The Kimpro Tac mag uses a devel-type follower with front skirt...hmmm? The follower seems resistant to rotating forward but not backward. Anyway, it's only happened once and I don't know if I could ever recreate the incident with the one mag in which it occurred.)

I'm not thrilled with the finish, being a hard paint, and the "SIS" patterned slide serrations, but otherwise have no functional problems with those design elements. Usually using the over-the-slide racking method, I've also had no problem with slide manipulation due to any perceived finish slickness. Dropping the slide with the slide-stop also works fine. (I've not had the pleasure of manipulating the weapon while dripping in my own blood...yet.:))

We recently had 3 SIS pistols at a class in one weekend. They all had function problems. Anything from feeding to extraction issues.

I have run into the "full auto" problem on two of my kimbers. Both were fixed by tossing the cheap kimber sear springs in favor of a quality on. I believe I used Ed Brown. I dont know where they are finding these springs, but they are really a piece of crap.
